FCM Book Club: A Reliable Wife

A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick is a story about family, love, deceit, and arsenic set against the back drop of a bleak Wisconsin winter. This book club gathering was hosted by Skylar Jett.  She stayed true to the reoccurring themes throughout the book of decadent foods and fine libations.

The cocktail menu included infused waters, red wine and vodka gimlets.  The red wine that was served was Temperamento Bobal which is a Spanish wine that can be found in Boise at the Basque Market. The favorites of the evening were the vodka gimlets which consisted of fresh squeezed lime juice and Blue Ice potato vodka, an Idaho company.

Vodka Gimlets
~ 2 ounces good quality vodka
~1.5 ounces fresh squeezed lime juice
~1 teaspoon powdered sugar

Shake and serve straight up!

The cocktails were followed by an appetizer of toasted Big Wood baguette served with fresh mozzerella and pesto. Since the basil is just freshly sprouting at our home the in-house made pesto sauce from Whole Foods is wonderful.

After dinner came dessert! Vanilla pound cake served with browned butter and champagne!

We all liked the book, the meal was wonderful, and, as always, loved getting together!

Such a great group-o-gals! And the newest book club member had perfect manners (she must get that from her aunt Jamie)
