Reconstructing Amelia Book Club

Ella's  selection for her last book club was Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight and it was a doozie! The novel was filled with suspense and readers didn’t want to put it down.

Ella was not only preparing for a big move but had also undergone foot surgery so the other members helped prepare the food and drinks.

The book takes place in New York and often times the cocktail that comes to mind (thanks to Sex and the City) is a classic Comso. The food was homemade calzones, salad, breadsticks and for dessert- a berry cobbler.   

It is always sad when one of our book club members leaves us. We really miss having Ella in our group. We welcome her back anytime she can make it! Virginia isn't really that far is it...

FCM Book Club:The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel



The first FCM Book Club gathering of 2013 was hosted by Ella Wilkerson. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel by Deborah Maggach takes place in India and has a vibrant cast of characters as well as a wide selection of exotic fare.  The beverages were a big hit: Mango Lassis for some which is a mango smoothie and mango rum punch for others.

Ella served a wide variety of foods including chicken curry soup and pepper steak served over rice. The Gooey Cake was not a traditional Indian desert but it was a huge hit.

Overall, everyone enjoyed this book.  There characters are likable, some laughs and it brings up some important issues about the treatment of the aging generations. It is vastly different from the movie and both are worthwhile.

Mostly, FCM Book Club is about getting together.

Here is to 2012... and an even better 2013

 While the New Year gives us the opportunity to create new goals, new memories, and new photos it is always fun to look back on some of the past highlights of the year before we say goodbye. Here are some of the best memories for us!

We started off 2012 with some great friends and continued our annual tradition of steamed clams and champagne.

2012 was also the year that we joined an amazing book club! The book club has allowed us to read some great books, catch up with friends, eat amazing food...and maybe have a few drinks.

Goldie turned 1! That is just a celebration all by itself!
